We are excited to announce the appointment of John L. McClung as the first Executive Director for Medical Ministry International US, and the establishment of its US headquarters in San Antonio, Texas!
John has 43 years of experience as a licensed attorney in transactional law and estate planning law. He is a long-time resident of San Antonio, Texas with his wife, Mary, a retired licensed marriage and family therapist.
John has served as a general helper on four Project Teams with Medical Ministry International: Peru in 2018 and 2022, and Colombia in 2020 and 2022. Upon reflecting on his biggest takeaway from his experiences on Project Teams, he shared that while he and Mary were always excited to earnestly serve, they always left feeling that they received more than they gave. John has experienced transformational moments on Project Teams that have spurred his heart to serve on international missions with Medical Ministry International.
Beyond his experience on Project Teams, John has served on the Board of Directors for Medical Ministry International since 2019. “I’ll miss board service but am convinced participating in overseas missions as well as corporate governance at MMI will prove helpful as we grow the new US entity,” says John.
John’s role as Executive Director for Medical Ministry International US will be primarily focused on increasing fundraising efforts in the United States, grant writing, and relationship development with churches, universities, other nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individuals. He looks forward to building a greater awareness of our presence in the United States, strengthening our base of financial support, and partnering with churches.
When asked how the Medical Ministry International community can pray for him as he steps into this role, John shared: “The same prayer that I hope everyone is praying for themselves: ‘Dear Lord, make me an instrument of Your will.’”
John will begin his role of Executive Director for Medical Ministry International US on October 1, 2023. The Board of Directors has asked Chris Ferris to serve concurrently alongside John, continuing as the Interim Executive Director for Medical Ministry International for the next 12 months at our International headquarters based in Hamilton, Ontario. Juan Alan Muñoz will continue to serve as our International Partners Director and we look forward to welcoming back Jillian Neven, our Senior Accounting Manager, returning from her maternity leave on October 16, 2023.
