Integrated Health Program

Our Integrated Health Program promotes the concept of self-care by teaching healthy lifestyle choices. Within this context, we share the Gospel of abundant life with patients and their families, offering pastoral care and counseling.

With the use of literature, materials and lively demonstrative presentations, our goal is to enhance whole-person health teaching and the nurturing of spiritual growth.

Of project volunteers, RNs, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Pastors, Teachers, and Child Care workers are just some of the helpers welcomed to join the ranks. Together with the local IHE team, their skills and expertise can be offered through interpreters when necessary. We have established Integrated Health Coordinators in many countries where MMI is active and will continue to do so. Therapeutic counseling is offered to the patients. Training in Integrated Health philosophy, execution and evaluation as well as in the future, Total Life Counseling training is offered which can be in-person or online.

Numbers for Integrated Health are tracked through our Primary Care portal. We are excited to continue growth in the tracking of these numbers as we can testify to improvement in healthy outcomes both physically and spiritually, throughout the many years of Integrated Health practice in several of our countries. We intend to grow our IHE impact.

This is lasting change!

Meet Betty Seunarine

Elizabeth Seunarine, B.Sc., RN, P.H.C., known to all as Betty, attended her first project with Medical Ministry International (then known as Medical Group Missions) in March 1986. In order to fulfill the practice requirements for the International Health certificate course, (Seneca College, Toronto, Canada), she was asked to take on the task of doing medical consults with the patients on that project. In doing so, Betty observed that approximately 75% of health complaints were linked to diseases and ailments that are and were preventable. Primary Health Care - Health Promotion, the teaching or training of community members as health promoters was the emphasis of this course. Inspired by deep faith and a desire to fulfill patients’ complete needs, physically, mentally and spiritually, she quickly saw the link between all aspects of health. Biblical context backed this view; Jesus did the same. Betty, her Spanish language skills on the rise, returned to MGM Dominican Republic the following year, 1987. She found the opportunity to blend these concepts teaching health care and sharing the gospel. This resulted in the birth of Integrated Health Education & Counseling. The rest, as they say, is history. Her call and mandate are to establish IHE&C throughout the MMI globe.
