Specialty Polymers: PEOX
Poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)
APPLICATIONS: Coatings, textiles, lubricants, plasticizers, compatibilizers, films, adhesives, binding agents
IN A NUTSHELL: It is a tertiary amide polymer produced by the cationic ring-opening pseudo-living polymerization of 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline. A water-soluble, thermally stable, film-forming thermoplastic, PEOX polymer offers a unique combination of physical pro
perties and performance characteristics that are of interest in the fields of adhesives, metal quenching and polymer compatibilization. As well as excellent water solubility, it is also soluble in most polar organic solvents and stable in weak acids and bases. It has very low toxicity, making it suitable for use in food handling applications. Its gas barrier properties are 25 times better than polyethylene or polystyrene for O2, N2 and CO2 and as it exhibits excellent adhesion to aluminum, paper, glass, cellophane, nylon, polyvinylalcohol, polymethylmethacrylate, Saran® and PET its use in packaging materials is obvious.
OUR NOVELTY: PEOX manufactured by other suppliers is typically polydisperse. PD for PEOX manufactured by Oxazogen is typically 1.1-1.2. Oxazogen's PEOX is linear and can be custom made to virtually any degree of polymerzation between 5 and 350.
